How to look after your timber shed

Want Your Timber Building to Last for Decades?

A well-built timber garden building is a serious investment, and without the right care, the Welsh weather will take its toll faster than you might expect. The single most important step is treating your timber correctly and consistently. Your building arrives with one base coat of water-based treatment, but that is only enough to protect it during installation. New timber needs at least three coats of a good quality, oil-based water-resistant treatment applied shortly after assembly, then repeated every year without fail. Timber is a natural material and it is not inherently waterproof, so skipping this step is the quickest route to damp patches and deterioration.

Beyond treating the wood, two other checks are easy to overlook. Seal all windows inside and out as soon as possible after installation using silicone or a suitable watertight product, as unsealed frames are a common entry point for moisture. Also make sure any overhanging trees or hedges are cut back regularly. A branch making contact with your roof felt can pierce it and allow water ingress that causes lasting damage.
